Sacagawea #4

Monday, July 15th, 2024 – Safeway

We had a great start to a new week. No roadkill and we found money.

We picked up two pennies on Juanita-Woodinville Way and a “smattering of coins,” Janet’s words, at her favorite drive-through. And, in case you are wondering, one smattering is exactly seventy-four cents making our total today seventy-six cents.

Someone lost some items along Juanita-Woodinville Way.

It was a strange collection, a large spoon, several candy packets, and part of an ice cream maker, all well run over. There were three pairs of women’s cotton underwear that were also run over, but not worn. The packaging was there and one of the pairs was still wrapped in a roll with a paper tape around it. They will go to Goodwill. The last thing was an old Kodak Company 35mm film reel can in very good shape. The was no sign of a box and no random pieces of the ice cream maker. It all ended up in the trash or recycle except the undies and the film can which looks to be selling for about forty dollars on eBay. It’ll go in our TrashWalking museum.

We picked up more broken glasses.

Someone’s future just got a little blurry.

We found an unopened package of spit tobacco.

Okay, we figured that this was chewing tobacco, but they need a new marketing firm.

We picked up another well-run over cell phone.

A Vortex model HD55. They tossed it because it was too hard to use because there’s a sticker on the screen. This is the twenty-first cell phone we have found.

We found a putting green.

NW Pro Putt. It’s kind of small for a putting green. And where’s the hole?

Tuesday, July 16th, 2024 – Park-and-Ride

The weather continues to be warm in the mornings, even at 4:45am when we start our walks. We kept our money-finding streak alive with another thirteen cents.

A dime and a penny at the freeway bus stop, a penny near the freeway overpass and another penny on Juanita-Woodinville Way.

Over a week ago, an abandoned car showed up on our route.

It had been tagged by the police as abandoned. Then it sat for several days.

Guess they were waiting for the car to be stripped before towing it. Reducing the towing weight, you see. We’re not sure why they didn’t take the second windshield wiper, though.

Nearby, someone left a pair of men’s underwear.

Whoever stripped the car got carried away and stripped also. It has been hot, though we don’t know if the stripper was hot or not. Based on the undies, we suspect not. These will not be sent to Goodwill.

Wednesday, July 17th, 2024 – Safeway & 100th Ave NE

And the money just keep coming.

Today Janet’s drive-through yielded two pennies and near a coffee stand, we picked up a quarter. We thought the leaf was a nice touch, too.

We found more glasses today.

A lost pair of kid’s sunglasses and a nerd’s pair of Guess sunglasses, about thirty-two bucks on eBay.

We noticed the earpiece had been taped up.

Thursday, July 18th, 2024 – 160th to 124th Street

Well, it happened. We didn’t find any money today after going a full month finding money every day. It wasn’t our fault, we looked very hard. It was the fault of the folks who were scheduled to scatter the change. Next, they’ll quit dropping tools. We didn’t find any of those either.

116th Ave NE is where people get off the freeway to get gas, buy some food and drink, and park to rest and eat. We found a urine bottle and a condom.

Okay, they may do things other than eat and drink.

Someone left us an unopened beverage can.

Liquid Death. It sounds like it could be a dark ale, but its flavor is Mango Chainsaw? Turns out, it’s flavored sparkling water. That won’t make up for finding no money.

Yet another pair of glasses.

Safety glasses that couldn’t protect themselves.

A damaged Ford wheelcover.

Recycled.

This is a keeper.

We’ll wash it and not send it to Goodwill.

A boat lost it’s fuel tank.

The tank sells for seventy dollars plus there’s about a half gallon of gas left in it. Great. Now we need to get a boat. Now where did we put that anchor we found?

Finally someone gave us the brushoff.

We don’t think much of people who would do that to us, but that would be painting them with a broad brush.

Friday, July 19th, 2024 – 100th Ave NE

Today we removed a roadkill rat from the street and found some money.

A very runover Sacagawea dollar coin and a shiny quarter. This is only the fourth Sacagawea dollar we have found. The individual who missed their money-scattering task yesterday is trying to make up for it. But it won’t work. We hold grudges.

It’s a good thing we got out before this guy.

He was trying to comb through the gutters for our money.

In case you were curious about what a runover oil filter looks like, here it is.

You’re welcome.

We found an interesting battery.

From the battery type, we found that this was from a Motorola barcode reader. Saturn 3 Express is a FedEx contractor that helps with deliveries. The website indicates they are hiring and lists the requirements as,

a- Valid driver’s license; b- 21 years or older; c- Good driving record with no major traffic violations; and d- Must be able to pass DOT Physical, Drug Screen, and Background Check.

It doesn’t say anything about not losing barcode batteries.

Saturday, July 20th, 2024 – Riverside Drive

Today we had another nice walk and picked up an inordinate amount of random trash including a small bird, a crow, and some money.

Two pennies, a dime, and three quarters, all found in different locations except for the last two quarters. The guy who shirked his responsibilities on Thursday is really trying hard. We may let him off the hook.

We also found three tools, the first of the week.

A tie-down strap, a bungee cord and a square key of some sort. The key was buried in road tar and needed to be coaxed out with a screwdriver.

As we headed down toward Riverside Drive, we found a tossed card.

It looks like someone retired and the coworkers gave here the card. It may have been a forced retirement because she tossed the card on the way home.

Yet another pair of glasses.

That’s Chuck peeking over the rim.

An old, abandoned lawn mower.

Maybe we’re jumping to conclusions, but it dosen’t look too cutting-edge.

We came to a fork in the road.

It never gets old.

By the Jackson’s service station we picked up a few cans from the bushes.

In all, we pulled out twenty Modelo cans, but one was unopened, so it wasn’t all bad.

We picked up two urine bottles on the freeway on-ramp.

Regular and the large economy size.

Be careful, there’s somebody unhinged out there.

We pulled a stollen package out of the bushes.

When we opened it, there was a new pair of work shoes in it. A porch pirate snatched it then wasn’t interested and tossed it. It was addressed to a person at a Wendy’s in Bothell, so later in the day we took it to Wendy’s. As Chuck walked in, the manager saw the package and asked if he had something for her, assuming Chuck was a delivery person. When she got the box, she looked surprised and asked what happened. Chuck explained the situation and she thanked us. She didn’t even offer him a hamburger.

That wraps up another week. Our take this week,

  • $3.27, a very good week for us.
  • 6 Mike’s Hard Lemonade cans.
  • 6 Budweiser Chelada cans, a new category.
  • 5 Pieces of apparel, only three sent to Goodwill.
  • 6 pairs of spectacles.  Probably a record, but we don’t keep count.
  • 4 Roadkill – two small birds, a crow, and a rat.
  • 4 Balls.
  • 3 Tools.
  • 3 Urine bottles including one large economy size.
  • 1 Chinese cell phone (aren’t they all?), our twenty-first.
  • 1 Spit tobacco, unopened.
  • 1 Liquid Death, unopened.
  • 1 Modelo, unopened.
  • 1 Unholy putting green, small.
  • 1 stripped car with one windshield wiper.
  • 1 Boat gas can with no boat.
  • 1 Kodak Company 35-mm reel can with no reel which was a real disappointment.
  • 1 Fork in the road.

Have a great week and remember, try not making a spectacle of yourself by losing your barcode reader battery.
