Monday, August 26th, 2024 – Safeway
As we dry out from Saturday’s walk, we start a new week with cool partly cloudy weather but no rain. We came across no roadkill but did find some money.

Only a single, upside-down, penny. What’s with that?
Last week, our Zero Week, we found no roadkill, no balls, and no tools. Today we cancelled two of the three. We found three balls and a tool.

Okay, it is only a 10 mm Socket, but the most lost by size. Okay, no biggie, but it counts.
We did sort of find Another.

Stihl makes implements like Chain saws, so this is some kind of blade scabbard for a cutting or trimming implement. It wasn’t heavy, but was Heavy, we were near a bus stop, so we dropped in a nearby trash can. It would have been better in a recycle bin, but Stihl.
As we left the neighborhood today, we found some more women’s undies.

It’s strange there are so many forgetful women.
Two parts of a large tree went down on Juanita-Woodinville Way.

Some months ago, another part of the tree when down in a different location and took out a fence. This is a photo from today that shows the new fence.

It looks like the neighbor is going to need a new fence also. Okay, and a new roof. That’s one way of removing the moss.
Tuesday, August 27th, 2024 – Park-and-Ride
Today, our weather app stated it was raining, but when we went outside it was overcast, but not raining. About halfway through the walk the app stated the rain was stopping, then for the last mile of our walk over Norway Hill, it started raining. We need a new weather app. Our walk was uneventful, and we found neither roadkill nor money.
We picked up a wheel cover near the freeway.

It looked to be a Nissan Versa hubcap.

“Currently unavailable.” So, are they flying off the shelf faster than they can be restocked? And does that imply Nissan has a wheel cover problem? We recycled the wheel cover, but perhaps we should have kept it for a potential class action case.
We picked up a bag of cookies.

It’s a dime bag and it has some residue in it. In the old cop movies the detective would put his finger in and taste it. It could contain Fentanyl. Cops don’t do that anymore if they ever did. And no, we didn’t either, we tossed it in the garbage. And yes, we know it could be harmful to a garbage dump rat, but, like humans, it has a choice.
We’ve found one of these before.

It’s a heavy, restaurant-sized tank of nitrous oxide, laughing gas. Restaurants use it for whipped cream and other foamy confections. However, folks also use it to get high which we think is how this got here. In fact, they sell these things in vape shops.
Wednesday, August 28th, 2024 – Safeway & 100th
Today, unlike yesterday’s uneventful walk, today’s walk was extremely uneventful. No roadkill and no money. And we only found one item of interest. “Notes-n-Scribbles-n-Stuff!”

Near Safeway, this notebook and pen were in the gutter, dropped by someone leaving Safeway. We took a quick look at the first page and the first entry was an entry labelled “My Phone” with a number.

We thought it would be a good idea to text him and return it. But, when we got home, we noticed that the rest of the page included account numbers, credit card numbers and PINs. Yes, not PIN Numbers. As we read more, we realized that we should just take it to Safeway Lost and Found.
Thursday, August 29th, 2024 – 160th to 124th Street
Well, today seems more normal. We found a roadkill rat and some money.

Not much, a dime and a penny, but given that we only found a single penny this week, this looks pretty good.
Then, we also found two tools.

A very small, rusty and broken screwdriver, and a very nice 9mm combination wrench. The screwdriver counts, but it was in bad condition and got recycled. The wrench went into our ever-increasing Found/Lost Tool Collection.
The first thing we found as we started the walk was a grocery bag at the bottom of the Tolt Pipeline Trail.

It had six empty White Claw cans plus the carton. At least they were neat litterers and they did leave us the pop tabs.
Someone lost their Bubba.

This is in great condition and goes for seventeen bucks on amazon, but we didn’t find the lid, so we’ll let it go for ten bucks. Let us know. Only serious offers will be considered.
When we first got started TrashWalking, almost ten years ago, we found a lot of drug needles. However, over time, the needle finds diminished, so today was rare find.

We picked up two needles
We found that someone has been spying on the park-and-ride.

More like a Peeping Tom. We know what goes on here, we find lots of condoms and underwear. As we’ve said before, there is an alternate meaning to the term Park-and-Ride.
Friday, August 30th, 2024 – 100th Ave NE
The weather this morning was near perfect for walking and the traffic was light being the Friday before Labor Day. Unfortunately, even though we labored mightily, we found no money. However, we did come across a roadkill.

A bat. At first we thought is was dead, but when we picked it up with our pickers, it weakly flapped its wings and we set it back down on the pavement. We decided to let nature take it’s course and run over it.
We did find a tool, though.

A nice 14 mm deep socket. We need a new socket jar. Our jar runneth over. And speaking of running over, our tire weight jar is running over.

This is the second time we’ve filled the jar. This one 20 pounds and 6 ounces. We didn’t count them, but that’s about three-to four-hundred weights. There’s a lot of unbalanced folks out there.
We picked up another wheel cover on Simonds Road.

Our second wheel cover of the week. It was a generic model and damaged, so also our second recycled of the week.
Hey, this is a good find. A free portable cooler.

Wait, Not Working. Okay, not that good of a find.
On 100th Ave NE and Simonds Road, we both started finding playing cards, including part of the cardboard wrapper.

When we got home, we combined our finds and counted them to make sure we were playing with a full deck. We counted fifty-three, not counting the jokers. We were playing with more than a full deck. We are so proud! We’re going to play some solitaire.
Saturday, August 31st, 2024 – Riverside Drive
We had another nice walk today as far as weather is concerned. As for as roadkill and money goes, it was not very good. We removed a roadkill rat and snake on the road and found no money, which makes the worst week since April 20th. But we did find another tool today.

Okay, it’s only a bungee cord, but it is in great condition compared to the bungee cords we usually find.
And someone left us something to eat.

An unopened Kinder Bueno bar, but not really breakfast food.
We found another loose Music CD to add to our collection.

A Lauren Daigle album, “How Can It Be.” She is a contemporary Christian music songwriter and singer and this was her debut album which reached number one on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart and went platinum. And we’d never heard of her.
Another lost key.

It looked important, but after some searching, it appears to be a key to a piece of office furniture like a filing cabinet or desk. Just another key for our key collection.
We picked up what appeared to be some type of camera.

After some searching, we found that it was a solar-powered backup camera. And now, it’s a backdown camera.
We acquired four items of apparell today.

In the Bothell parking lot, we found a dirty tank top that we tossed in the dumpster. On Brickyard Road was a pair of Lee Extreme Comfort jeans in good condition. Someone lost their kid’s shoes on the freeway on-ramp. Hope they pay more attention to their kid. Then, in the bushes by the Jacksons a pair of panties labelled BABE BODY. We don’t know how they got there, but it is called a service station after all.
With that, we wrap up another TrashWalking week. Our take:
- 12 Cents. A miserable week.
- 10 Balls, almost as many as the cents.
- 10 Mikes Hard Lemonade cans.
- 5 Tools including a very rusty screwdriver.
- 5 Articles of clothing including two pairs of panties, one frumpy, and one not.
- 4 Roadkill: two rats; one snake; and an almost roadkill bat.
- 2 Wheel covers.
- 1 Tree house.
- Two Drug Needles
- 1 Illicit cookie bag.
- 1 Bottle of laughing gas.
- 1 Wired notebook.
- 1 Bubba cup
- 1 Deck of fifty-three playing cards.
Have a great week, and remember it’s easier to play solitaire with extra cards.
