Happy Easter

Monday, April 14th, 2025 – Safeway

We started the week nicely with clear skies and cool weather. We removed a rat from the road and found money.

Thirty-six cents at the drive-thru and two pennies at the food truck. That’s a good start. We also picked up a tool.

Only a bungee cord, but it counts.

Oh, great.

Another box for a laughing gas canister. We didn’t find the canister, but we probably will. Even empty, they’re heavy. It’s no laughing matter.

Last week we found part of a card.

We spent some time online attempting to identify it, to no avail, and we tossed it in our garage trash can. Today, we found the other half and put the halves together.

It is a Regal Crown Club for the Regal Theater chain. We were hoping it was a gift card, but it is a rewards card requiring an email address password to access. Now both pieces are in the trash.

We have collected several discarded vaping devices, and we were discussing with a friend the difficulty of safely disposing of them. The question was raised as to what kind of battery is in them. So, we checked.

The one we opened was unmarked, so we checked online. They are Lithium Ion and there are several articles about repurposing them.

They also warn about the dangers of overcharging or undercharging them.

We’ll recycle them somewhere.

At the top of the Tolt Pipeline, we found used condoms – two different brands.

Either they are running a field test for Consumer Reports, or they are taking double dating to a whole new level.

Tuesday, April 15th, 2025 – Park-and-Ride

This morning was much like yesterday. Well, except we found no money, roadkill, and no tools. Other than that, it was much like yesterday. Okay, the weather was about the same, otherwise it was quite different.

We found a discarded gasoline gift card.

We found one of these in the past, it was unused, and we used it on a short road trip. We picked up this one within sight of a Shell station, so we didn’t hold out much hope of it having a balance left on it. So, when we got home, we checked, and we were right. Zero balance. That’s okay, we had a tough time using the last one up on our Leaf.

We have no idea what this is for.

A Pride Worm?

Okay, our fears from yesterday came true.

We found a laughing gas canister, but this was a full-sized one that does not match up with the box from yesterday. So, now we have a missing small canister and a missing large box. Can it get any better?

Some free stuff.

At least we assumed it was free, there was no sign. All the items looked old, but the fire extinguisher was interesting. It is a Pyrene fire extinguisher from the 1940’s or 50’s. They were carbon tetrachloride models used before the dangers of carbon tetrachloride were known. When your fire safety equipment is also a hazmat danger, you know you’re living in the good old days.

Wednesday, April 16th, 2025 – Safeway & 100th

We are supposed to be in our Mud Season.

However, we are having relatively nice weather, a little chilly but with clear skies. We’ll take it. We saw several rabbits and two rats this morning, all live and none were roadkill. But we did find more money at the drive-thru.

A dime and two pennies. After being so stingy through the winter, the drive-thru has started to pick up, so to speak, as the weather warms. Well, they do kind of specialize in ice cream.

Today seemed to be all about Safeway, and shopping carts to be specific.

We came across this cart about a half mile from Safeway. Inside was a prescription delivery receipt. Strange, we assumed they used trucks. We pushed this cart about a half mile back to the store. Near the store, we picked up a Safeway hand basket, then at the bus stop in front of Safeway, yet another cart.

The two carts had the same warning in them that the wheel would lock up at the store’s perimeter. Obviously, this was an empty threat. Once, we did find a cart with the wheel locked up, and it was about as far away from a Safeway that you can get without nearing another Safeway. Not much of a deterrent.

Our first McUrine cup of the week.

We were getting worried.

Why for less?

When can you pay more?

Okay, today was pretty much all work and no play, so now it’s Miller Time!

Well, Icehouse time, anyway. It was full and not leaking. We’ve picked up several Icehouse cans but never had one. We’ll put it in our beer fridge and give it to a guest some time. You don’t think we would waste an untested beer on ourselves?

Thursday, April 17th, 2025 – 160th to 124th Street

The weather continues to be cold and clear, and we keep finding money. This morning, the park-and-ride provided all the treasures.

First, a nice pile of twenty-four cents of coins.

Then, this being Holy Week, someone left some religious artifacts.

A crucifix and some pictures. Also, there were some small items,

including two coins. One was a commemorative coin of a Pope and the other was a token from Chuck E. Cheese. These appear to be Catholic icons, so we will drop them off at a Catholic church to and let them deal with them. Except for the Chuck E. Cheese token, of course, we’ll hang onto that.

Friday, April 18th, 2025 – 100th Ave NE

This morning was a bit colder, the forecast for this afternoon was going to be in the seventies. We also found more money.

Three cents at the drive-thru, not much, but it just keeps flowing. We’re anxious to see what tomorrow brings.

We picked up a tool, also.

A drill socket driver.

We came across two wheel covers this morning.

The first thing was an unidentifiable wheel cover that spent too much time in the fast lane. It took us a few minutes to pick up the big pieces. The second, a VW fared better, but still damaged. Both got recycled.

Elite Pro Cleaners.

We found this magnetic sign on the roadway. There is no way it would stick to the road. Give them a call and tell them to clean up their act.

Another McUrine Cup.

Someone put a small computer desk in a small parking area.

It appears someone is taking working remotely to a new level.

We picked up another earbud charger with no buds.

It’s very inconsiderate of people to not put the ear buds in the charger before they lose it.

Saturday, April 19th, 2025 – Riverside Drive

And the money just keeps flowing. At a trickle, but flowing.

Twenty-nine cents today. The first two pennies were in a gas station driveway. The rest were in separate places in the park-and-ride.

Also, two more tools.

Two, almost identical tie-down straps, except one is yellow and the other orange, one had insulated hooks and the other didn’t and one was obviously older than the other. Other than that, they were identical.

We found a shirt in the construction area.

Unfortunately, it had been run over several times by some heavy equipment and was no longer fit for human use.

Another urine bottle.

The good old water-bottle type, not those new McUrine types.

We found a McDonalds Happy Meal toy.

It didn’t look like that much of a toy when we picked it up. Then we watched a YouTube video about it and found that it opens.

It still doesn’t look that fun.

We found some unsharpened carpenter’s pencils in the mud.

They are from a local lumber company. The guy went to the lumber store to get some wood for a project. He saw the free pencils and decided he could use them instead.

We found a timer switch for home automation.

So we’re into home automation and we plugged it in to try it out, but Alexa just ignored it. We even tried clapping.

But nothing. It must be defective.

Thus wraps up another week. Our inventory,

  • $1.06, the hard way.
  • 4 Tools, including almost two almost identical straps.
  • 4 Pieces of religious art.
  • 3 Balls.
  • 3 Safeway carts, returned.
  • 3 Carpenter’s pencils, unused.
  • 3 Urine containers.
  • 2 Tokens, one for a Pope and one for Chuck E. Cheese.
  • 2 Condoms used in ride tests.
  • 2 Toys, including an un-fun Minecraft block.
  • 2 Halves of a movie rewards club in the trash.
  • 1 Shell gift card that was out of gas.
  • 1 Roadkill, a rat, but we’ll take the money over roadkill.
  • 1 Laughing gas canister that lost its sense of humor.
  • 1 Old fire extinguisher.
  • 1 Unopened beer.
  • 1 Computer desk that was ctrl-alt-deleted.
  • 1 Silent charger.
  • 1 Disobeying timer.

Have a great week, and check Consumer Reports before you make your purchases.
