Hit by a Paint Truck

Monday, April 21st, 2025 – Safeway

We started out our week badly with a roadkill rat, but nicely with some money.

The drive-thru came up empty, but the food truck left us some change. Twenty cents. We’ll see if it keeps flowing.

We passed some free stuff early in our walk on 112th Ave NE.

Some plastic chairs, a choice of three to choose from. One plain, one with a ‘free’ sign and one with Radio Flyer seat cushions. The first one is just a chair. The third has seat cushions that are selling for ten bucks. But why would you want seat cushions for a cushioned dining chair? Okay, perhaps if the meal included a lot of beans and cheese. Okay we shouldn’t dwell on potty humor. But the bottom line is, the only choice is the center one. It’s the one that’s free, it has the sign.

Since we started with potty humor, let’s get this out of the way. We found this candy wrapper.

Really? Is this appropriate Easter candy? Only to a fourth grader. Okay, we may know one or two adults who fit this category.

Two more Cosmic Grape laughing gas canisters.

It really irritates us that they never leave any for us, but that’s probably just sour grapes.

We have another student driver magnetic bumper sticker.

The sign evidently lost patience and bailed.

Another McUrine cup.

At least we got this out of the way early in the week. Otherwise, the suspense would be intense.

This was nice.

At the top of Norway Hill, we saw three deer, the mother, and fauns.

We picked up two pairs of eyeglasses, one in decent shape and the other not.

The pair of readers were undamaged and typically sell for under ten dollars. The other pair was a pair of more expensive sunglasses, a hundred dollars or so. We found this exact model on the web, and yes, they were a bit more expensive.

At $1,165 it is about a hundred times more expensive than the readers and is the most expensive item we have found, topping the $1,025 Shinola Detroit Watch we found when we first started the TrashWalking blog in March of 2018. And yes, the watch was in about the same condition.

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025 – Park-and-Ride

Again, we started our day with a roadkill rat and money. We didn’t take a photo of the rat, but here’s the money.

The dime was in a parking lot and the nickel was on Norway Hill. Two days and two money finds. Let’s keep it going.

We found an emblem on the overpass.

We found that it is from a Honda engine valve cover. Honda has good quality control on the mechanical components. Now they need to work on the adhesives. We found a used one selling online for $20. We could sell it online also. Of course, we would iron it first.

We found a few things at the park-and-ride. First a mug.

A Hydrapeak Roadster 40oz Stainless Steel Tumbler, $20 on Amazon. Who drinks 40 ounces of anything while driving? You wouldn’t get far before you had to stop, of course, unless you were carrying a McUrine cup.

We haven’t found a dime bag for a while.

They must be trying to sell drugs as a healthy habit with the medical symbol. But it really isn’t a medical symbol. If you want to kill some time, check this out.

Finally, also at the park-and-ride, Minnie Mouse lost her ears.

At least we did not find her undies like we do from a lot of ladies at the park-and-ride.

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2025 – Safeway & 100th

We started the day with no roadkill and money.

Only two pennies at the drive-thru. Not much, but it keeps the streak going.

“Make it Simple but Significant.”

We figured that this was a lost tag for some significant gift given to a loved one. But it turned out to be a car air freshener. There’s nothing like a pine-scented inspirational message. And the simple thing was to toss it out the window.

We picked up a set of keys for something like a roof rack.

So, when you have 2 identical keys for a roof rack, should you keep them on the same key ring? The answer is yes, so we can have a matched set for our lost key collection.

Kentucky Bourbon Peanuts

It has a warning label: CONTAINS PEANUTS. Well, duh! But we checked the milk carton in our refrigerator, and guess what? It contains milk! We were wondering what was in it.

Thursday, April 24th, 2025 – 160th to 124th Street

Today we were flying to Boise, Idaho to visit some good friends, but we still walked our normal Thursday route. However, the only thing we found that was remotely interesting was a tossed package of cigarettes including the lighter at the park-and-ride.

And it was very remotely interesting.

In Kuna, a suburb of Boise, we went on a walk and picked up trash.

You may not recognize her without a vest, but that’s Janet on the right with the picker. We found the Boise area much cleaner than our Bothell. However, we did find some money.

A shiny penny by the side of the road. We did see a roadkill rabbit, but it was pretty well run over and there was no shrubbery under which to toss it. However, we walked along this road.

We figured it was named after roadkill.

We had a great time on our visit, but the excuse for the trip was to attend a beer festival, the Shade City Brewfest at the Idaho Botanical Garden. In honor of the first Earth Day, April 22nd, 1970, folks are encouraged to dress up in the 1970’s style. We did our part including tie-dyeing our own shirts.

Unfortunately, it looked like we got run over by a paint truck, but we still had a groovy time.

Thus ends our shortened TrashWalking week. Our inventory:

  • 38 cents including the Boise penny.
  • 4 Paint-splattered tee shirts.
  • 3 Plastic chairs, one free.
  • 3 Deer, not frolicking.
  • 2 pairs of glasses, one useful and cheap and one stylish, expensive and smashed.
  • 2 Balls.
  • 2 Roadkill rats.
  • 2 Laughing grapes.
  • 2 Matched keys.
  • 1 Fourth-grade candy.
  • 1 Patient student.
  • 1 Urine container.
  • 1 Medicinal dime bag.
  • 1 Philosophical air freshener.
  • 1 Bag of peanuts containing peanuts.
  • 1 Remotely interestingly package of cigarettes.
  • 1 Road named after flat deer.
  • 0 Tools.

Have a groovy week and remember to steer clear of speeding paint trucks.
