When we pick up beverage cans, we keep the pop tabs. We started collecting them for our neighbor, who had a brother in North Dakota who used to donate them to a charity for aluminum recycling. Since we started walking, his brother passed away, but other family members picked up the tradition.
The most pop tabs we’ve collected in a single day was ninety-eight on September 22nd, 2023.
We’ve kept track of the pop tabs and have fallen into a cycle of taking inventory every six months.
We don’t count the tabs each time, we found the number of pop tabs per pound on the Internet and calculate the number of tabs.
Periodically friends who know we collect them will give us a bunch, but we don’t count them in our totals.
So, what is the value of the aluminum tabs for recycling?
Not much.
