Baby, It’s Cold Outside – Again

Monday, February 21st, 2022 – Safeway

Today was comfortable at 37 °F (3°C) with an occasional mist.

Today is All Presidents’ Day and traffic was light. There was plenty of random trash, but very little of interest. The commuters must toss the interesting stuff.

We did find a nice pair of gloves.

Useful, but not very interesting.

Well, this was mildly interesting, very mildly.

One large shoe sole, and there were no identifying marks to be able to make sure we would never purchase this brand since it seemed to fall apart. We didn’t measure it, and we do not know large shoe sizes, but this looked like a size 38 to us. And yes, it was big enough that a well-endowed lady probably could strap it on as a bra. Not much of a fashion statement, though.

As we said, a pretty boring walk.

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2022 – Park-and-Ride

Okay, today the temperature dropped to 31°F (-0.5°C). However, it was dry and there was no wind. Or so we thought. As we walked out our driveway, we saw snow.

It had snowed during the night, but only a dusting. The streets were mostly dry and not slippery. However, a lot of the foliage was snow covered which made it difficult to see small random trash.

Well, we were able see this, even though it was snow covered.

A single kid’s boot. And a half-empty Pepsi can on the curb. We shudder to think.

Relatively speaking, the park-and-ride was a mess.

Someone brought in a truck and dumped random furniture including some bedsprings. There was also a box of diesel additive, probably for the truck that dumped the furniture, but we can’t be sure. But, hey, why not?

Still in the park-and-ride, someone tossed a jar of jalapeño peppers.

They were labeled “Hot.” Perhaps the guy couldn’t take it.

Nearby, someone’s half-finished dinner.

We understand why he tossed the jar. That is a lot of peppers for this. Of course, a real man could handle it.

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2022 – Safeway and 100th Ave NE

Today it was 22°F (-5.5°C), way too cold to walk. We slept in.

Thursday, February 24th, 2022 – 160th to 124th Street

Today it had warmed to 32°F (0°C) and we suited up for our walk. When we opened the garage door, we found it had snowed a slight amount again and that made the streets icy. We returned and unsuited.

Friday, February 25th, 2022 – 100th Ave NE

It was again too cold to go out this morning, but we did take a short walk later in the afternoon when it was warmer. And the sun was out! We walked to the park-and-ride and back, about 2.75 miles and we did pick up trash as we went.

But we didn’t get jack.

It was in front of the apartments, so we left it. After all, it was nothing to get all jacked up about.

We found a CD envelope.

Orange October – The House of Murderphors by A-Train Gang. We listened to a couple of tracks online, not our style. And very violent.

At the bus stop someone dropped his baggie of a half dozen masks as he got on the bus.

Wonder if he got home on the bus? He probably had to beg someone for a mask.

Two more baseballs outside a school.

The one on the left had been in the bushes since at least last baseball season. The other was waterlogged. It was a pre-wetted spitball.

At the freeway onramp, we found two new pairs

of fingernail clippers.

Or perhaps fingernail and toenail clippers, a matched set. So, if you are in the market for a set of clippers, we can give you a great deal on an open box buy, probably only used once. Let us know.

Time to check Chuck’s vest pocket.

A black disc. It appears to be old. It might be an ancient charm to keep evil spirits away, but it’s probably a lid of some sort. Two Washington State Lottery scratch-and-lose coins. A Mental Calculations card that turned out to be a “prize” in every Bear Fruit Roll snack. This one is 34 of 50, and yes, you can purchase a set of all 50 on eBay for only a dollar. Plus $4.95 shipping and handling, of course.

Ivonne’s Social Security Card. Valid for work only with DHS authorization? After some research, we found that there are three types of SS cards. This one is for someone in the country legally but can only work with authorization from the Department of Homeland Security. And yes, there is one labelled “NOT VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT.” Does this imply they get social security benefits without working? Why didn’t we know about this a long time ago?

Finally, not related to a walk, we went to a trampoline amusement center. No, not for us, we took our grandkids. We saw this sign.

First, they don’t indicate whether 300 pounds is a minimum or maximum. Then there is the age restriction, zero to six. Is there such a thing as a 300-pound six-year-old? And would it be safe to let a 300-pound kid play with a zero-year-old kid?

Saturday, February 26th, 2022 – Riverside Drive

This morning was marginal for a walk, so we bagged it again.

To wrap up the week, we only did two-and-a-half walks and found no money.

So, our take this week was,

  • No Money.
  • 3 Mike’s Lemonade cans on Norway Hill.
  • 2 Nail clippers.
  • 1 Giant shoe.
  • 1 Small boot.
  • 1 Jar of jalapeño peppers.
